Pisgah National Forest is Known as the Birthplace of Modern Forestry
This scenic national park in Ashville is also home to historic conservation efforts. The first forestry school in America was founded here which today can be visited at the Cradle of Forestry. Many of the first designated wilderness areas on the east coast are within Pisgah Forest area. Hence the title, “birthplace of modern forestry.”
Asheville Has many Nicknames
There are a lot of things in Ashville which makes it special. To justify them all, people have resorted to their own titles which became popular lately. Nicknames for Asheville include “The Land of the Sky,” “Beer City, USA,” “Bee City, USA,” and my favorite- “Dog City, USA.” Some are just for fun like “A-Ville” and “Ashe-Vegas.”
There is a Scientific Reason the Blue Ridge Mountains are Blue!
Anything Blue must be unique, mysterious and soul pleasing. Blue doesn’t need any embellishment. Before I could say mom, I said Blue. My favorite color. These blue mountains in Ashville are called Blue ridge because of a scientific phenomenon.
The trees and plants in these mountains release a type of hydrocarbon that reacts with molecules in the air. On top of this process, a light reaction occurs with these molecules. Making the mountains look strikingly blue from afar. An amazing vacation destination to hike up the blue mountains and soak up the purely charged energy vortex!
The Biltmore is the Largest Privately Owned Residence in America
Spread across 8,000 acres of land, the Biltmore Estate is home to the Vanderbilt family. The property is enormous and has many sightseeing attractions within. The Biltmore Estate opened on Charismas Eve 1895 and became America’s largest privately owned residence.
Asheville is Beer City, USA
You can stumble over a terrific brewery for every mile in Ashville. Asheville has one of the highest numbers of breweries per capita in the country. It has also been voted as “Beer City, USA” four times since 2009! There are over axp 30 breweries throughout the downtown area and around Buncombe County. If beer is not your thing, Ashville is not short of wineries either.
